Hi Dervila
The cables on the units are still the same at 5ft but you can use an extension cable
You can use either the Geopod or the Vitopod outside as both will work in wet conditions although i am not sure if the lights will continue to work outside. The real issue you are going to have is that the Vitopod only has a range of 18 degrees so the colder it is outside the colder it will be outside. If it is in a conservatory that has a temp of 5 degrees at night the Vitopod will stay at 23 degrees but if it is outside and is minus 3 the Vitopod will not get beyond 15 degrees.
Regards
Niall
