I haven't noticed any significant increase in slug populations when using these mats though I do take your point. I guess you need to weigh up the two, I know with my busy work life that I find the greatly reduced weeding a real blessing and have not been too bothered by slugs. I use the mat 'D' a lot of onions and garlic which aren't really bothered by slugs anyway and genuinely find them excellent (the mats, not the slugs!).
