... better to just get a couple of raised beds in and keep gravel or some grass grown around it? I don't want to spend loads of cash on membrane and then put raised beds in anyway..What do suggest for a confused but enthusiastic gardener like me?

Hi Rozz. I think I would start off with raised beds to see how you like it. Leaving the rest in grass is the easiest option if you thought you might like to add more beds in the future. If you are a first time vegetable grower raised beds are by far the easiest option as regards maintenance and I would probably recommend them for the long term also. I hope this helps. Andrew
