Hi Liz
This can be used as a fleece cover instead of fleece but with a lot of other advantages. It allows water through. It stops a whole host of nasties like carrot root fly, aphids, cabbage white butterfly etc and you are right it lasts way way longer as you won't tear it in a hurry
