Hi Garrat
If you are growing in soil it will naturally break down over the season so you won't be left with soil higher than the bed. Adding soil to a new bed with compost is the perfect mix if you have a mix of one third compost and the remainder soil that you might have. The Joraforms will drip a small amount in the first few weeks until the foam expands through the heat of the composting. After that it won't leak at all. There is very little smell and any that there is stays in the unit and is only exposed when you open the doors
