The best mix is as follows. One third kitchen waste (all waste food including cooked and uncooked), one third brown carbon waste (shredded paper, cardboard, wood pellets, leaves etc), and one third garden waste (particularly grass clippings, weeds, waste crops etc). The unit will get warmer quicker in the summer months however it doesn't to much whether it is inside or outside for it to work
