Hi Adrienne. Good questions. I will do my best to answer. 1. No you don't need to break up garden waste however the woodier stuff like clippings etc do need to be cut up or they will just take longer to compost. 2. Again no need to cut up things like rotten potatoes etc but the more things are broken up before being put in the Joraform the quicker they will compost. 3. There are 2 compartments in the unit so you fill one full and then move on to filling the next one. Once the first one is broken down and emptied you start filling that one again.
