It depends what type of compost you use. I would recommend and organic compost and using plant feeds sparingly. Bear in mind if you have fish you will be using a filter system which filters nitrates created by the fish out of the water, it will do the same with excess nitrates from the plants. I would advise growing plants in the planter with low nutrient requirements like the lavender pictured in the photo.
