Could I put the contents of my cat litter tray in this unit safely? I use wood chip cat litter.

You can of course Jane. Provided you don't take up to much of the contents of the Hotbin with just this product. The wood is the issue more than the cat waste as you don't want to much brown waste in the bin in comparison to kitchen and garden waste. You should have roughly one third brown waste. The litter you mention, cut up paper or cardboard etc
