Hi Eamonn. You are quite correct, I will change our description accordingly. Essentially you need a material that will provide air spaces in the compost, hotbin's bulking agent is just coarse bark mulch. Other alternatives readily available to the home gardener would be prunings or other bulky garden materials. We will also look supplying a cost effective supply of bark mulch bags. The other alternative (though more expensive) is the excellent Joraform insulated rotating composters which will compost a bit quicker and don't require a bulking agent.
