Hi Robert. You should have no problem connecting an inline pump to your feed to the irrigation system. If you are using river water I would recommend using a filter on the irrigation system to avoid potential blockages in drippers. The water pump will likely be a 3/4 inch fitting which you can connect a hozelock type fitting to, you can the connect your 16mm irrigation to the hozelock fitting.
