Hi There
That is a good question. Having assembled many of these units, I can tell you that the central divider is not fixed to the outer panels so doesn't offer extra structural integrity but the central spindle does run through the divider so helps share the load with the gable panels. A full composter is heavy so load bearing could be a concern. Also, the 2 chamber system works very efficiently and allows the secondary composting of one chamber meaning you get fully finished compost. In a single chamber system, you will always have an amount of fresh or partially broken down material. The short answer to your question is I think, yes, you could do it but you will sacrifice one of the key advantages of the 2 chamber design.
I hope this helps
