I hadn't noticed 'rough and ready' in the product description! I think the copywriter meant 'heavy duty' rather than 'rough and ready' as the Chillington handles are well sanded and need no further smoothing before work. The handles are raw timber (unvarnished) and will benefit from an application of wood oil like any other garden tool with a timber handle. I will remove 'rough and ready' from the description as it is not an accurate representation of the handle.
